| G24 Innovations |
A Welsh company makes solar cells that are not based on silicon but on the Graetzel Cell. This technology is based on coloured dye and tiny crystals of titanium oxide. Michael Graetzel, a Swiss chemist discovered in 1991 that when struck by sunlight the coloured dye spits out an electron which is immediately captured by the titanium. They work better in low light, including indoors, and they are lighter and less fragile. They are currently being used in small-scale charges for mobile phones and mp3 players. |
